Obituary: Philip Sloper

Philip Sloper, the former managing director of Thermofrost Cryo has died aged 70.

After reading for a degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge University, Mr Sloper joined Delta Metals as a graduate trainee and was assigned to work at Delta Cryo, based in Birmingham. ln 1982 the company was acquired by United Termofrost and merged into a single company renamed Thermofrost Cryo Ltd. At that time Mr Sloper became marketing director of the new company. He performed the role with distinction and oversaw continual growth in the firm, eventually becoming managing director in 2004.

Thermofrost Cryo benefited greatly from Mr Sloper’s vast industry knowledge, forensic attention to detail and impressive work rate. In 2014, he retired from the Company after 35 years of service, having become a well-known and respected leader in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry.

Outside work, Mr Sloper was a keen windsurfer in his younger years and had a lifelong interest in classic cars. His pride and joy was a 1970’s Porsche 911, which he purchased and restored to pristine condition. Together with his wife Wendy, he enjoyed classic car rallies, motorsport events and classic touring, visiting numerous countries along the way.
