The Teslamiser chiller battery pack was crowned Air Conditioning Ancillary of the Year at the ACR News Awards which were held at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel in London last month.
Developed by Klima-Therm and Geoclima, Teslamiser is based on the latest lithium polymer batteries coupled with a smart control system to monitor and control electrical power supply to the chiller.
The system is specifically designed for use with Turbocor compressor-based chillers, and in particular Klima-Therm’s original Turbomiser and new, ultra-efficient K-Turbo ranges, to exploit their superior part-load performance, but could also be applied to other suitable chillers or HVAC systems.
Teslamiser automatically optimises energy flows into, within and out of the chiller. This includes managing power inputs from the mains electrical supply and any renewable sources, such as photovoltaic (PV) panels and wind energy, according to pre-set criteria.
This enables the system to harness the preferred energy source at any given time to power the chiller, with the battery pack providing the buffer. Power source selection can be based on lowest cost, lowest carbon, even the most profitable, with some energy providers now paying customers to consume energy at certain times.
Teslamiser can also operate as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), maintaining plant operation in the event of a power cut for long enough to restore normal operating conditions. In critical applications, such as operating theatres and data centres, this is not just a “nice to have” but a “must have” capability.
