Fridge-freezer explodes on Isle of Wight

AN ISOBUTANE refrigerant leak in a domestic fridge-freezer is thought to have been the cause of an explosion which rocked a house in Ventnor, Isle of Wight, on Monday morning. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident which occurred just after 7am but the elderly resident was left in shock.

UK a leader in transcritical CO2 refrigeration

NEXT to Denmark, where HFCs are banned, the UK is leading the way in the adoption of CO2 transcritical refrigeration systems in European supermarkets. According to natural refrigerants group Shecco, the UK currently has 267 supermarkets running transcritical CO2 systems, behind Denmark's 424, but way ahead of Germany (166), Switzerland (149) and Norway (134).

AHR Expo - another record

THE US AHR Expo show continues to grow. The latest event in Chicago from January 23-25 attracted nearly 40,000 visitors. Based on preliminary registration numbers, the 2012 Show will easily surpass the previous record of 38,534 visitors at the 2008 Show in New York City.

Ice factory fighters seek charitable status

THE Great Grimsby Ice Factory Trust, the group fighting to preserve the historic Grimsby Ice Factory and its unique refrigeration equipment, is to become a company limited by guarantee and seek registered charity status. Among other benefits, the move will allow the organisation to take up a £3,500 offer of help from Lincolnshire Heritage and the Architectural Heritage Fund.
