[firstParagraph]
CANADA: The legionnaires' disease outbreak in Quebec has claimed a 12th victim in an outbreak which has so far seen 176 infected.
The predominant bacteria found to be infecting people has been confirmed as legionella pneumophila serogroup 1, pulsovar A.
Water samples have been taken from 129 cooling towers in the Old Quebec area of the city and officials have said that they will be reiinspecting about 30 buildings to confirm that the building owners have complied with clean-up procedures.
As with the recent case in Edinburgh, Scotland, and in South Wales last year, officials admit that it may be impossible to pinpoint the exact source of the outbreak.
