ASERCOM publishes guidelines on refrigerant glide

As a consequence of the EU F-gas regulation ((EU) No 517/2014), the future synthetic refrigerants for refrigeration with a low global warming potential will be to a large degree non-azeotropic mixtures with a significant temperature change at constant pressure.

The term ‘glide’ is widely used to describe the temperature change during the evaporation and condensation process. ASERCOM, the Association of European Refrigeration Component Manufacturers, has issued a new guideline that aims to develop an understanding of the glide effect on the performances declared either by the compressor or by the system manufacturers.

ASERCOM’s guideline gives an overview of the relation between the dew and mid-temperature for non-azeotropic mixtures, highlights the difference in performance and gives a recommendation for converting the performance of the compressor regulated by the existing standards EN 12900:2013 to mid-temperature performance. In this case any misunderstandings and wrong interpretations of the result are avoided.

The new guideline can be downloaded on ASERCOM’s website at www.asercom.org/guides.
