US air con sales slide

US SHIPMENTS of central air conditioners for November 2006 were down by 47% on last year, according to the Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Institute (ARI).
Shipments of central station units fell to 336,027, while air-source heat pumps experienced a 32% drop in factory shipments to 114,342 units.

Year-to-date totals of unitary air conditioners and heat pump also dropped, falling by 17% to 6,675,631.

The ARI represents 90% of manufacturers involved in air conditioning and commercial refrigeration equipment installed in the US.
