Tutankhamun's treasures preserved by GF Holdings

Home to Tutankhamun's treasures, the O2 may not be the ancient Egyptian's final resting place, but from November until August next year, its building has been kitted out with tailored air-conditioning.
Tutankhamun
GF Holdings, specialist in the fit out and refurbishment of the O2 building began work last May to turn a 3,500m2 space with two floors into a place fit for a king.

Marking the first time the treasures of Tutankhamun have visited London in more than 30 years, the exhibition of more than 130 artifacts from the tomb of the pharaoh and other valley of the kings ancestors arrived in London on November 15, having waited in Philadelphia while GF Holdings completed its task.

GF Holdings worked for six weeks to install several air-conditioning units, a dozen dehumidifiers and low-level lighting.

Awarded the £1m contract in August 2007, the firm's task required the installation of air-conditioning systems that ensure atmospheric humidity levels are kept constant.

The entire exhibition is kept at a relative humidity of 50% +/- 10% by a JS Humidifiers steam humidifier system. This was installed by Baysbuild.

The exhibition's artifacts include the royal diadem, (the gold crown encircling the head of the king's mummified body) and the gold and precious stone inlaid canopic coffinettes that contained the king's mummified organs.
