MATTHEW Lander, an apprentice with Huddersfield-based Crowther & Shaw, is to represent the UK in the air conditioning and refrigeration category in the 2007 WorldSkills competition in Japan.

Matthew, 18, whose training was organised through BEST (Building Engineering Services Training), has enjoyed considerable success in his career to date. He came first at SkillFridge, becoming the UK’s National Young Refrigeration Engineer. He recently completed his NVQ level 3 in refrigeration and air conditioning.
Delighted with his success, Matthew said: “I am very excited about 2007 WorldSkills and feel confident that all my training at the Grimsby Institute and my apprenticeship with Crowther & Shaw has really helped me to prepare for the tasks in Japan.”

Building Engineering Services Training Ltd (BEST) is the leading training manager for the Heating & Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry (HVACR) and is part of the Heating & Ventilating Contractors' Association (HVCA) group of companies.
Formed in 1990 as the training arm of the HVCA, BEST encourages companies to recruit apprentices. BEST manage their training on-site and at college for the duration of their apprenticeship, usually three to four years.
