Tesco reports strong Christmas trading

Tesco saw a 1.3% increase in UK like-for-like sales over the Christmas period for the six weeks ending 9 January.

Tesco saw a 1.3% increase in UK like-for-like sales over the Christmas period for the six weeks ending 9 January.

Like-for-like group sales grew by 2.1%.

The retailer has also released its results for the third quarter (13 weeks ending 28 November 2015), showing UK like-for-like sales down by 1.5%, while group like-for-like sales fell by 0.5%.

Chief executive Dave Lewis said: “We are continuing to focus our efforts on serving our customers a little better every day and I want to thank my colleagues across the Group for their commitment, passion and energy.  There is plenty more to do, but we are making good progress and are trading in line with profit expectations for the full year.”
