Support the sector's historic Ice Factory

Readers with an interest in preserving rare refrigeration compressors housed in a historic former ice factory, are invited to join a group formed by the Grimsby, Cleethorpes & District Civic Society.
The Grimsby Ice Factory was the largest in the world when it opened in 1901. It closed in 1990 and has since received grade-ll listing for the rarity of the refrigeration equipment contained within it - four huge J&E Hall four-cylinder compressors of 16.5in diameter, 15in stroke. The compressors are 80 years old.

'Our story about the Ice Factory and the battle to save it created considerable interest in the refrigeration industry,' said ACR News editor Neil Everitt.

He added: 'The future of the building is under considerable threat from developers, those who see no historic value in the building or the machinery it contains and, not least, from the ravages of the elements. 'Initially I would ask all interested parties to lodge their interest with me here at ACR News at neil@fav-house.com or by phone on 020 8651 7100.'
