Record chiller installation from ENGIE with green refrigerant

In Australia, ENGIE Refrigeration has supplied the world’s largest fleet of chillers, using the sustainable refrigerant R-1234ze.

The Lindau-based refrigeration specialist has supplied eight Quantum chillers with a total refrigeration capacity of 10 megawatts to major hospital in Sydney.

The eight water-cooled chillers ensure an optimal climate for people and medical equipment. These Quantum models use the eco-friendly refrigerant R-1234ze and, in combination with their energy-efficient operation, the chillers reduce the hospital’s ecological footprint related to refrigeration supply.

Chillers from ENGIE Refrigeration are now in operation in over 150 hospitals – from Germany to Iran and all the way to Australia.

Absolute operational reliability at the hospital

Over the past months, ENGIE Refrigeration replaced all the systems on-site, adapted the Quantum chillers precisely to their specific environment and provided optimal integration into the existing hydraulic system. This groundwork formed the foundation necessary to enable the eight chillers to ensure the safe and reliable supply of refrigeration.

The chillers are characterised by their soft start-up currents, as well as their extremely low-noise and low-vibration operation. They feature an impressively high power density, which adds up to maximum energy efficiency combined with a small footprint. Furthermore, the use of electrical filter technology in the chillers supports operational reliability and safeguards highly sensitive hospital equipment against electrical faults.

In addition, the multiple compressor configuration in each chiller ensures high availability at all times. The oil-free and magnetic bearing compressor technology incorporated into every Quantum chiller is characterised by hard-wearing operation, another important benefit for the Australian hospital, enabling it to enjoy significant savings in maintenance and operating costs.

Proven expertise in clinical processes

ENGIE Refrigeration has many years of experience in providing reliable and efficient refrigeration for medical facilities. For the past 10 years, the refrigeration specialist has been equipping clinics and hospitals with its Quantum chillers. At present, over 150 hospitals worldwide are using the company’s proven technology. That’s around 210 chillers, with a refrigeration capacity of around 120,000 kW, installed to keep things running smoothly.

ENGIE Refrigeration’s long-standing customers include the Schön Klinik group of clinics in Vogtareuth, Germany; the Generating Station Complex university hospital in Leeds, UK; and the Professor Samii International Neurology Institute hospital complex in Tehran, Iran.
