Institution of Mechanical Engineers launches developing engineers programme

A structured online resource which combines tools, guidance and support has been launched by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers to help members achieve professional registration.

The Developing Engineers Programme (DEP) has been specifically designed for Associate Members who have recently graduated from university. They can access the resource using their personal ‘My Account’ log in.

James Hobbs, chief operating officer at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said: “This online resource will ensure members get the support and guidance they need to get professionally registered as EngTech, IEng or CEng as efficiently as possible. We have also included member case studies, application guides and a wide range of easy-to-use online tools.

“We’re committed to ensuring that our Associate Members achieve professional registration - the globally-recognised gold standard for engineers. The Programme helps them build a personal plan to achieve professional registration, support their ambitions and fulfil their career potential.”

The Programme consists of five distinct areas:

a. Planning and recording tools – a range of tools to support: benchmarking; activity recording; goal-setting; SWOT analysis and document storage to allow Associate Members to build their personal record of professional development activities.

b. Professional registration guidance – all the guidance they will need on the  required academic and competence requirements, UK-SPEC guidance and how to make their application.

c. Career support – career guides on finding engineering jobs/opportunities, CV writing and interview preparation.

d. Get more from your membership – information on how they can make the most of the Institution’s member benefits

e. Apply for professional registration – quick links on applying for professional registration
