INEOS Fluor to shut Runcorn plant

IN LIGHT of the European ban on use of virgin R22 after the end of this year, UK refrigerant producer INEOS Fluor has announced that its plant in Runcorn is to close in November.
The R22 plant, which was commissioned in 1963 and supplies the UK and Europe, will then be demolished.

Gary Hemingway, operations director, INEOS Fluor said: 'The fluorocarbon industry has being undergoing substantial change since the 1980s and this is one more step in that process. We continue to produce and supply replacements for Arcton 22 for use in refrigeration and air conditioning and to develop new generation refrigerants.'
