Danfoss releases new EVR v2 solenoid valves

The Danfoss range of EVR v2 solenoid valves has undergone a wide series of improvements, with reinforcements and rationalisation making them capable of accommodating the higher pressures of refrigerants and a broader range of applications while also reducing the references, inventory, and servicing time.

The Danfoss EVR v2 solenoid valves range has been significantly updated.

Benefits for HVACR professionals include reduced applied and running costs in all applications, including cold rooms, chillers and heat pumps, without compromising on reliability.

Higher MOPD and new features compatible with modern refrigerants

The Danfoss EVR range has a proven track record with more than 30 years of presence in a wide scope of air conditioning and refrigeration applications such as walk-in cold rooms, display freezers and refrigerators, chillers, rooftops and close controls.

10 key features have been applied to enhance design robustness in more applications, while increasing functionality and making service easier.

The valves are available at Danfoss partner wholesalers.

EVR v2 valves are now optimised for the business success of manufacturers and installers in:

Air conditioning

The superior max. OPD and min. OPD (Opening Pressure Differential) deliver greater performance in high temperature applications (105 °C) and are optimised for variable refrigerant flow conditions or use with variable speed technology. Designed to stand higher maximum working pressure (MWP) up to 45 bar, the same model of EVR solenoid valve is compatible with higher pressure refrigerants such as R410A and is applicable to heat pumps or chillers running in ambient temperatures (up to 130°C in shorter for hot gas defrost and bypass) during periods of maximum loads. Qualifications are planned in 2018 for alternative mildly flammable and flammable refrigerants to be used in larger chillers.

Commercial refrigeration and food retail

The reliable and versatile new EVR valve platform covers a wide range of functions, applications, and refrigerants. The platform is approved for lower GWP (global warming potential) refrigerants, including R290 propane. Tight solenoid closure safeguards the system and contributes to food safety, with enhanced flow characteristics for high efficiency. In the liquid line, the tight shut off prevents refrigerant flow back to the compression side. In the discharge line, the new Danfoss EVR v2 can stand high temperatures and save on the system energy consumption compared to other defrost methods. Therefore, they bring high value in applications such as ice making machines, cold rooms, freezers or ice cream machines where they undergo additional stress due to the rapid defrosting cycles or short hot gas injection cycles, and where a suction line solenoid valve is required for defrosting.

EVR valves are ideal for applications such as food retail display cases since they enable service and maintenance to be carried out quickly, with no disruption to store trading hours. There is no need to de-solder the complete valve and put a new one into the system; just leave the valve body in place, replace the internal parts as required and you can get the system up and running again quickly. Service kits are also available.

Fewer models, broader scope

Allan Chara, marketing director for cooling refrigeration controls at Danfoss, says: “Our revitalized EVR range saves on applied, development, and storage costs. From April 2018, the new EVR range will completely have replaced the production of the actual EVR, EVRE and EVRH ranges. 30 percent fewer but more versatile models suit more applications and refrigerants, while being backward compatible.”

He adds: “We come now with revitalised ranges of products and services from the same supplier with high quality as a standard for key air conditioning and refrigeration businesses, compatible with today's demands for higher reliability, versatility, and efficiency to meet the demands of the industry. All this is available via the major wholesalers and can be selected online with the new Coolselector, together with Optyma condensing units, T2/TE2 thermostatic expansion valves, electronic controllers, and pressure switches.”

The wide range is available for cooling capacities from 3-410kW (0.85-116 tons) in liquid line, 0.3-65kW (0.08-18.3 tons) in suction line, and 1-350kW (0.28-99 tons) for hot gas bypass, with connection sizes from 6-42 mm (1/4” to 2 1/8”). They have the same built-in length as the actual EVR with the corresponding connection size, except for the bi-metal connections.

The complexity reduction also leads to cost optimisation in air conditioning systems. For installers, a streamlined range means the right valves are more likely to be available, helping to manage inventories and avoid logistic issues.

The changeover does not impact the coil program (SCN-SCT) or the EVU/L/CSV non-serviceable valves.
