Daikin sponsors Scottish Green Housing Forum

Daikin UK is sponsoring the first Green Housing Forum to take place in Scotland.

Daikin UK is sponsoring the first Green Housing Forum to take place in Scotland.

The forum will bring together Energy Action Scotland, Daikin UK, Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership and one housing provider to be announced and will focus on tackling fuel poverty and addressing carbon compliance through the use of renewable technology.

The free event takes place on Wednesday 25 May at the Westerwood Hotel in Glasgow and attendees will learn more about how housing associations can incorporate heat pump technology into existing and new build housing stock.

There is a significant appetite for sustainable energy solutions within Scotland. Indeed, recent statistics from the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) show 57.7% of Scottish electricity consumption came from renewables in 2015 - 7.7% ahead of the 50% target.

The focus of the forum will be to further encourage and develop the renewable heating sector in Scotland and discuss how the progressive alterations to the Scottish Section 6 building legislation affects housing associations and local authorities. This new legislation aims for a 21.4 per cent decrease in carbon dioxide emissions from dwellings comparable to the 2010 levels. As such, the Green Housing Forum in Glasgow will demonstrate how air to water heat pumps can tackle fuel poverty, reduce fuel bills for residents, achieve carbon compliance and improve resident health and wellbeing.

Speakers at the event will include: Barbara Atterson, development manager, Energy Action Scotland; Mike Trant, asset management and policy manager, Dumfries and Galloway Housing Partnership; David Morrison, Daikin UK and a special guest speaker to be announced.

David Morrison of Daikin UK said: “Daikin UK is once again delighted to be sponsoring the Green Housing Forum and bringing it to Scotland for the first time. Scotland is a world leader when it comes to implementing sustainable energy solutions.

“We are excited to be discussing how air to water heat pumps and hybrid technologies can deliver a range of benefits, not only the environment, but also to housing associations, asset managers, developers, and contractors.”

Already well established in England, the Green Housing Forum brings together senior personnel working in asset management, housing developments and sustainability to examine the challenges and solutions for helping to alleviate fuel poverty and to reduce carbon emissions.
