Compressors: GEA’s portfolio is extended to meet CO2 requirements
[firstParagraph]
WITH so much interest in CO2 the GEA Refrigeration Division has carried out extensive development of its products for this refrigerant.
A range of piston and screw compressors, compressor packages and cascade packages for CO2 refrigeration applications is available from the Grasso factories in Holland and Germany. The advantage of using CO2 in industrial refrigeration plants at lower temperatures is that it gives the opportunity to increase the specific refrigeration capacity of the compressors (up to 10 times) compared to other refrigerants, says Grasso. For that reason small and medium sized single stage compressors can be used for large industrial refrigeration projects.
As well as the compressors, Küba Kältetechnik and Goedhart Cooling Equipment have developed CO2 air coolers for both direct and indirect systems. Goedhart has been awarded the NVKL cooling trophy for its contribution to the use of CO2 as an environmentally friendly and economic alternative to synthetic refrigerants and ammonia.
Evaporating temperatures used are between -52°C and -5°C.
depending on the application and the design pressure. Coil blocks can be made in copper/aluminum, stainless steel/aluminum, and from galvanized steel. Installations have been designed up to 72 bar.
Küba has been involved in the design and supply of air coolers for supermarket installation in Europe using CO2 both as a secondary refrigerant and direct evaporation.
Boasting Europe’s largest r&d facility for air coolers. Küba is able to develop and test coils at any operating condition and on all refrigerants. The results are maximum safety in terms of installation, use and maintenance as well as safeguarding the value of the investment.
Grasso Products Ltd is the supplier of the full range of products from the GEA Refrigeration Division.
