BSRIA to host Soft Landings seminar

BSRIA is holding a Soft Landings and Government Soft Landings convergence seminar on 6 November, at the Royal Marriott Hotel in Bristol.

The seminar is primarily aimed at public sector clients and their supply chains, and will cover the latest developments in the Soft Landings process.

BSRIA is encouraging people with a keen desire to deliver better performing buildings to attend. From January 2016, Government Soft Landings (GSL) will be mandated, along with BIM, for all central government projects. It is also likely that general public sector projects will also include Soft Landings within their employers’ requirements from early next year.

The introductory seminar will demystify the process of Soft Landings and the government client version (GSL). Expert practitioners will be on hand to help delegates get a good understanding of both processes, step-by-step, and how to apply Soft Landings on real-world construction projects.

Roderic Bunn, principal consultant, BSRIA (pictured) said: “Do you know how to respond to a tender asking for Soft Landings? If you are a client, do you know how best procure it from your supply chain? And if you are a contractor or professional designer bidding into a Soft Landings project, do you know what to offer?”

“This seminar will get you on the right footing. Clients and built environment professionals both need to understand how to produce better-performing buildings at each of the eight stages of the construction project process. The seminar will also help you to identify problems related to occupant comfort and satisfaction.”

The seminar will be held at Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel, College Green, Bristol, BS1 5TA from 13.00 to 17.00. The speakers are Roderic Bunn; Mike Chater, a project architect at Hampshire County Council overseeing the adoption of Soft Landings on the county’s schools’ rebuilding programme; Andrew Digby, who is with the Ministry of Justice Estate Directorate Programme and Project Delivery team and runs the Government Soft Landings (GSL) Stewardship Group promoting and supporting the adoption of GSL in central government departments; and Alasdair Donn, a Principal Energy Solutions Engineer in Willmott Dixon’s Energy Services group, with a strong track record in building performance evaluation and testing. He has been a member of the BSRIA Soft Landings User Group for the last five years and has presented papers and seminars at Ecobuild, CIBSE and other organisations in the building performance field.
