BSRIA makes key new appointment

The Building Services Research & Information Association (BSRIA) has appointed Nick Blake as its new principal consultant – facilities management in its Sustainable Construction Group.

Nick Blake, principal consultant – facilities management for BSRIA's Sustainable Construction Group.

The appointment of Mr Blake comes as part of BSRIA’s commitment to offering a strategic facilities management (FM) consultancy through the whole lifecycle of building property management and maintenance, adding commercial awareness to best practice.

Mr Blake most recently led BSRIA’s engineering department, managing all aspects of building maintenance for three private hospitals including the site and ‘bank’ personnel. His role included project management, contract negotiation and tendering, while Mr Blake also has experience in electrical installation and commercial and residential maintenance.

Mr Blake managed the onsite delivery of the £1.5m endoscopy department, car park lighting LED upgrade and rewire, asbestos removal and electrical upgrade to save over £45,000 per annum.

He has also been a key participant in many governance groups, providing regulatory guidance in line with HTMs and other industries’ statutory guidance notes to ensure CQC compliance.

Peter Tse, business manager, Sustainable Construction Group, BSRIA, said: “Nick brings with him a rare mix of facilities management and construction experience. We see the appointment of Nick as an essential step in our continued development of our FM service offering, supporting both building owners and operators tackling their unique challenges.”

Mr Blake said: “I’m looking forward to working with BSRIA’s existing clients and to building new relationships for BSRIA across the built environment industry. Of course, I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to help the construction industry around the world not only make buildings better places for people, but also make the whole world a happier place.

BSRIA is a great organisation and I’m keen to bring my extensive commercial business experience to complement and support the work of technical experts within the department. I am honoured to be surrounded by so much knowledge and experience.”
