BSRIA appoints new chief executive

Julia Evans will take over the role as chief executive of BSRIA in May 2014 when Andrew Eastwell takes retirement from the company.
BSRIA appoints new chief executive
Ms Evans is presently chief executive of the National Federation of Builders which campaigns on the issues that impact the construction industry such as procurement, utilities, sustainability and funding. As such she represents the industry at high level government and industry forums and is an active media commentator and policy influencer.

Speaking about the appointment BSRIA's chairman, Leslie Smith, managing director of Cudd Bentley Consulting, said: 'After a highly competitive selection process I am confident that we have in Julia a very effective voice for BSRIA and its members as well as an accomplished executive. I am looking forward to working with her in the years to come'.

Ms Evans said: 'This industry is a fascinating one, with many levels and skills and operators. I have been proud to have spent several years representing the contractors and builders involved in the built environment.

'In my new role I will represent another crucial side of the sector, that of the environmental, technical and sustainable agenda. I am looking forward to joining BSRIA and taking this important work forward.

She added: 'I believe the industry is finally, after some years in the wilderness, resuming normal service, albeit slowly. Working with government, not against it, has been my philosophy, and I intend to continue the relationship in that vein for future positive developments.'

Commenting on his successor's appointment Andrew Eastwell made reference to the support Ms Evans can expect from the management team, staff and members; 'It has been a pleasure to lead the BSRIA team of talented engineers and skilled managers who drive our mission to improve both the commercial and technical quality of our sector. I am delighted that we have attracted a first rate person and I know the BSRIA staff will give her the same unstinting support that I have enjoyed during my tenure.'
