Airedale apprentice scoops top college award

TEST engineer Daniel Carter, who left school at 16 to become an apprentice at Leeds-based air conditioning manufacturer Airedale, has been awarded Engineering Advanced Modern Apprentice of the Year by the college.
Airedale apprentice scoops top college award
The fourth year apprentice was presented with his award by BBC Look North presenter Christa Ackroyd and Leeds City College principal Peter Roberts at the College's annual awards ceremony at Leeds Town Hall.

Work-based assessor for engineering at Leeds City College, Clive Beard said: 'Due to his hard work and dedication, Daniel completed his qualification an amazing 13 months ahead of schedule, and even undertook an additional unit of competence. He thoroughly deserves the award.'

Airedale director of human resources Steve Joyce said: 'Daniel is one of 16 apprentices at Airedale, six of whom attend Leeds City College on one day release per week. This means they can apply the theoretical skills they learn at college in a work environment, allowing them to be productive and make a difference from the start. This type of work-learning creates a high level of motivation and we find that our apprentices are self starters with an aptitude and natural ability to apply themselves to problem solving. Daniel is a shining example and has shown exceptional motivation. His outstanding achievements at Leeds City College have won him the praise of everyone at Airedale.'
