Air on, Ayr off

HEAT pumps have had to clear many regulatory and funding hurdles to gain acceptance as a renewable technology, so it's perhaps appropriate that the product should lend its name to a steeplechase.
Unfortunately, this afternoon's race meeting at Ayr has been called off due to a waterlogged track, so we can but speculate on the outcome of the 15.50 race, the Daikin Renewables And Heating Challenge Handicap.

While Heez A Steel and Cast Iron Casey may have had a shout, it is unlikely that any of them could have got within reach of FiftyFive Degrees, the 10-year-old gelding which was to have been ridden, appropriately, in the green colours of owners Mr & Mrs Raymond Anderson Green.
