The Institute of Refrigeration (IoR) Northern annual golf day this year was the biggest ever.
Organised by Ray Jones and Becky Treece-Birch of Dean & Wood, 19 teams in total took part. The main reason for the success of this year’s event was the course – Close House – which is one of the UK’s top 100 courses and has Lee Westwood as the associated tour professional.
A fun event was organised on the day called the Island Challenge. Located near the clubhouse is a lake with a pin in the middle. The idea was to get nearest the pin or a hole in one with three golf balls. The proceeds of the Island Challenge totalled £235 and were donated to the Children’s Heart Fund Charity CHUF on behalf of the IoR. Steve Collins of Project Refrigeration was the closest to the pin and collected a bottle of champagne.
Competition was fierce on the day with some really talented golfers, but worthy winners were Green Zone Surveys (UK) Ltd with a net score of 61.4.
The day was enjoyed immensely by all, not least the Sauermann team (The Three Amigos) who were clearly in good spirits. Winning trophies and the prize draw were presented by Becky Treece-Birch of Dean & Wood and Paul Cable of EJM.
Paul Cable of EJM and Treasurer of IoR’s Northern Branch said: “I have to say the golf day at Close House was exceptional, the quality of the course, the staff, the food and prizes were fantastic – I only wish I could say that about my golf! Thank you for putting the Northern Region golf day on the map.”
The raffle prizes generated £540 and the IoR Northern Branch thanked its sponsors for helping to make the day a success. Sponsors were: Dean & Wood Ltd, DWG (Ireland), Mitsubishi Electric, Kooltech, Acrol Air-Conditioning, Hadrian Air-Conditioning, EJM, Cool-Logic, Upnorth Group, TQ Environmental, Ventilation Supplies, Javac, AGAS, Sauermann, Pumphouse, Aspen Pumps, Henry Technology, Lawton Tubes, ITE, Fujitsu, and Advanced Engineering.
Bookings are now being taken for the IoR Northern dinner being held on the 25 September 2014 at the Thistle Hotel Newcastle. Email Becky Treece-Birch for more details at treece-birchr@dean-wood.co.uk.
