UK: A unique record of ice production at the Grimsby Ice Factory has been unearthed by the group fighting to preserve this historic building and the iconic refrigeration equipment it contains. Now the film is being made available on DVD.
Local amateur film maker Martyn Bullock spent the summer of 1990 documenting the work of the ice factory, just prior to its final closure. Originally edited down to fifteen minutes for a Cleethorpes Camera Club competition, Martyn has now, twenty two years later, taken all the original footage and made it into a fascinating 45 minute documentary.
Grimsby Ice Factory is now the only remaining Ice Factory of this type with its equipment still in place. For over 20 years, the equipment has been silent, but now you can see it work again.
Martyn Bullock has donated his historic film to the Great Grimsby Ice Factory Trust, and copies of the DVD are now for sale for £10 (including postage.) Proceeds will go to support the activities of the Trust, which is currently in the process of carrying out an options appraisal.
Yesterday (Wednesday), Yorkshire TV ran a report on the Ice Factory and the new DVD. You can see extracts from the report and DVD at
