AREA calls for split systems to be brought within F-gas regulations

AREA, the European contractors' association, is calling for changes to the F-gas regulations to require all non-monobloc air conditioning and refrigeration systems to be installed by a certified professional. It also wants to see the F-gas threshold lowered from its present 3kg to just 100g and is backing a call for a mandatory register of acr professionals.

Could the future lie in linear refrigeration compressors?

LINEAR technology could become the pre-dominant energy-efficient refrigeration compressor design in the future, according to Brazilian manufacturer Embraco. The company, which last month announced the launch of an oil-less linear compressor for domestic refrigerators, has plans to launch a commercial range in the future.

Chemical producers reveal details of new HFO refrigerant blends

JUST when it looked like so-called natural refrigerants were to be the long-term answer in many applications, two of the world's leading chemical companies have revealed details of a potential new range of low GWP blends. These are based on the technology behind the refrigerant HFO1234yf which is currently being adopted as a replacement for R134a in car air conditioning systems.

Titan signs deal with Spanish refrigeration firm Tecnac

TITAN Engineering has signed a UK distribution deal with the Spanish company Tecnac, a manufacturer of commercial and industrial refrigeration components. The deal signed at Chillventa on Wednesday adds a range of oil separators, suction accumulators and receivers to Titan's product portfolio.

SWEDISH company SWEP, a specialist in supplying heat exchangers to the air conditioning and refrigeration industry, has won the Frost & Sullivan Europe Market Share Leadership Award for 2010 by capturing nearly 40% of the brazed plate heat exchanger market.

Ductwork company fined for not insuring employees

ESSEX-BASED ductwork firm Ductwork Environmental Services Ltd has been fined 1,000 pounds and ordered to pay 750 pounds in costs for failing to purchase compulsory insurance to protect its employees.

The Victorian Society, a national charity campaigning for the preservation of Victorian and Edwardian buildings, has named the Grimsby Ice Factory as one of the ten most endangered buildings in England and Wales.

Walter Meier launches own-brand chillers

WALTER Meier (Climate UK) has launched its own brand of air-cooled and water-cooled chillers and heat pumps. The new Climate brand includes versions featuring Danfoss's oil-less Turbocor compressor as well as R410A scrolls.

Daikin to feature R32 air conditioner at Chillventa

DAIKIN is to feature a split air conditioner running on R32 on its stand at next week's Chillventa exhibition in Nuremberg. This mildly flammable (A2L) refrigerant has previously only been used as a constituent in refrigerant blends (R407C and R410A both contain R32), but is thought to be one of a number of new alternatives that Daikin is exploring.

Refrigerant differences may not be significant, long term

A COMPARISON study of HFC and CO2 refrigeration systems has shown that each need time to reach their best level of performance and minimise climate impact. The report suggests that the financial and environmental gap between the different refrigerant solutions can be closed and the choice of refrigerant will then make no significant difference any longer.

G&L Beijer signs refrigeration supply deal with GDF Suez

G&L BEIJER AB, parent company of UK wholesaler Dean & Wood, has signed a global agreement with the French energy company GDF Suez. Under the agreement Beijer Ref becomes a preferred supplier of refrigeration systems and comfort cooling equipment to GDF Suez in all markets.
