Refrigerant choice has little effect on energy efficiency

A NEW guidance note from the Institute of Refrigeration concludes that the choice of refrigerant has very little effect upon the energy efficiency of cooling systems - far more important is a properly maintained, well designed system.

Cheap cabinets bring down EcoQuip

OXFORDSHIRE-based EcoQuip Ltd., one of the country's best-known suppliers of refurbished commercial refrigeration display cabinets, has called in the administrators after a downturn in business. This is said to have been compounded by a new, much cheaper source of cabinets being available causing the refurbishment market to contract. In recent times, the company was forced to reduce staffing, which before the administrators were called in numbered around 50 employees.

Caravell underlines independence with "no frills" range

LESS than six months after its bid for independence, refrigeration equipment supplier Caravell UK has launched a new range of "price-competitive products" and expects to have a further £6m distribution agreement in place by the end of this month. The Buckingham-based company successfully completed a £9.8m MBO from its Danish parent company on March 1.

Danfoss moves 'stat production to Slovakia

TOUGH competition in the refrigeration and freezing appliances market is blamed on Danfoss's decision to move its production of refrigerator and freezer thermostats from Nordborg to its factory in Slovakia. The relocation, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year, will affect around 77 employees, it is said.
