EPEE hosts briefing on F-Gas Gapometer

EPEE (the European Partnership for Energy and the Environment), the voice of the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump industry in Europe, is today (28 April) welcoming 10 journalists from across Europe, as well as representatives of the European Commission, for a press briefing on its ‘Gapometer’.

EPEE says the Gapometer is a critical tool to measure pan-European compliance with the EU F-Gas Regulation.

Director General of EPEE, Andrea Voigt, said: “The objective of the Gapometer is to raise awareness with industries and decision-makers at EU and national levels about the potential obstacles to ensuring compliance with the F-Gas Regulation and to show ways of achieving the phase-down. Ultimately, the Gapometer should help us identify and then take all the necessary measures to ensure successful implementation across Europe.”

In addition, EPEE has today published a White Paper entitled A Vision for Heating and Cooling Priorities for Today and Tomorrow in which it calls, in the short term, for a strengthening of existing legislation and making better use of synergies between EU legislation in this area. More long term, EPEE calls for visionary steps which go beyond the existing framework and involve a more holistic, system-based approach where buildings should be considered as an integral part of the energy system

During the press briefing participants also had the opportunity to learn more about the work of EPEE, the challenges facing the refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump sector across Europe and how EPEE is planning to respond.

This event is a part of a broader effort by EPEE to keep the media, as well as international colleagues, fully informed about the current EU requirements relating to the EU F-Gas Regulation and other relevant legislation from Brussels such as Ecodesign, the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive and the Energy Efficiency Directive.

EPEE and EVIA are also holding an inaugural conference ‘EUREKA 2016: Heating, Cooling & Ventilation: Sustainable technologies for a better life’ at The Hague on 13 December. The event will showcase the heating, cooling and ventilation industry’s impact on the European Union’s energy goals and demonstrate the potential, attractiveness, and innovative nature of our industry. For more information visit http://www.eureka-hvacr.eu/.
