Daikin UK launches climate education drive

Daikin UK has teamed up with climate education specialists Generation C and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to launch a climate education initiative in local schools. The programme aims to bridge the green skills gap and inspire the next generation of engineers and sustainability professionals.

This initiative directly connects classroom learning to real-world applications in the HVAC and renewable energy sectors, highlighting technologies such as Daikin’s air-source heat pumps and showcasing career paths in heating, cooling, and decarbonisation.

This is a strategic investment in the future workforce as well as an opportunity to support industry outreach and raise awareness of the technical skills required to meet the UK’s Net Zero goals.

Butterstile Primary School, Prestwich and St Ambrose Barlow RC High School, Swinton, are the two pilot schools on board for the initial roll-out of the initiative.

Tomoji Miki, Managing Director of Daikin UK, said: “Achieving widespread adoption of solutions like heat pumps requires a skilled workforce for tomorrow. Partnering with Generation C allows us to invest directly in the next generation here in Greater Manchester.”

As the HVAC industry faces increasing demand for low-carbon solutions, programmes like this help build the talent pipeline essential for long-term growth. Engineers and firms can support these efforts by engaging with local schools, offering site visits, or contributing to educational content.

Phil Wharton, Co-founder of Generation C, added: “Education is crucial in unlocking effective solutions… We need to empower the next generation, show them the positive impact they can have, and equip them with practical skills.”

The collaboration reflects a growing trend of industry-led education initiatives aimed at addressing climate anxiety and promoting sustainable careers.
