Cooling views sought for skills review

THE views of HVAC professionals are wanted to revise the cooling industry's national occupational standards (NOS) and S/NVQs.
The sector skills council for building services engineering, SummitSkills, has drawn up a draft set of recommendations to improve the UK's NOCs.

The standards describe the nationally-recognised level of competance needed to undertake a job in key disciplines. The proposal documents requiring review cover cooling and electrotechnical Services, Electrical and Electronic Servicing, Plumbing and Heating & Ventilation.

Many of the skills in the NOS are more than eight years old and do not take into account new working practices, legislation, technologies and environmental considerations.

SummitSkills hopes the review process will create a consistent terminology across the sector's qualification standards and produce more user-friendly NOS.

Since the start of the year, SummitSkills has been meeting with the sector's employers and industry bodies to discuss what they would like to see in the revised qualifications.

You can submit your response to the proposals by November 26.
