Worker dies at George Barker fridge factory

A WORKER has died in an accident at the George Barker fridge factory in Bradford.
Jim Murphy died in hospital, hours after police were called at 1.50pm on December 1 to an 'industrial accident' at the factory.

The 61 year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics, before being taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he later died of his injuries.

An HSE spokesman confirmed that it was investigating Jim Murphy's death and that one of its inspectors visited the firm's premises in Bradford on December 2 to examine the scene of the accident.

George Barker, part of the EPTA group, produces refrigerators for commercial use, but suspended production for 24 hours after the incident as a mark of respect.

A company spokesman said: 'A highly-regarded and much-loved George Barker employee, Jim Murphy, sadly died as a result of an incident at work.

'As the circumstances are unclear, we are currently helping the Health and Safety Executive perform a full and thorough investigation into the circumstances of this sad event.

'At this point there is nothing more we can add until the investigation has been concluded. Our thoughts are with Jim's family and friends at this difficult time.'
