The free energy webinars will give businesses access to insight, inspiration and the chance to ask questions of different expert speaker panels for each seminar. The events are being held in partnership with industrial refrigeration specialist Star Refrigeration.
Cold Chain Federation chief executive Shane Brennan said: “Keeping the nation fed through the Covid-19 crisis has dominated every aspect of running a cold chain business. Our members have pulled out all the stops to keep fresh and frozen food moving safely through the Covid-19 crisis. Attention is now turning to navigating businesses through the long road to recovery.
“Controlling energy costs is at the heart of running a successful storage and logistics business. Energy Week is our way to help businesses to ensure they have continued focus in this vital area even at this most difficult of times.
“A year ago when we relaunched our Federation we put helping supply chain businesses to prepare for the challenges of a net zero economy at the core of our mission. Rethinking how we generate, buy and use energy is at the heart of that. Through Energy Week and our Energy Summit later in the year we are delivering on that mission.”
The webinars will discuss what the current energy landscape in the UK means for cold chain businesses, showcase the latest innovations, and look at resources available to help cold chain businesses take practical action.
Tuesday 16 June, 10-11am: The Energy Landscape
Cold Chain Federation’s Shane Brennan and Star Refrigeration’s Dr Rob Lamb will be joined by Claire Chaffer of Jacobs to examine the latest UK energy policy announcements, the extension to the current Climate Change Agreement and what this means for cold store businesses.
Wednesday 17 June, 10-11am: Innovations in renewable energy in the cold chain
Mypower’s Neil Stott will give his insights into starting a renewable energy project, and Magnavale’s Jonathan Gagg will discuss how to build the business case for renewables. Dave Pearson, Director of Renewable Energy at Star Refrigeration will explore different options for cold stores looking to create an income stream by harnessing the waste heat generated from refrigeration plants.
Thursday 18 June 10-11am: Energy Summit Day
On the day the industry had planned to gather in person for the Cold Chain Energy Summit, Cold Chain Federation’s Shane Brennan will preview the re-scheduled event in November. Star Refrigeration’s John Clark will share insights into how cold chain businesses can drive energy improvements using data and computer modelling for prompt, targeted action. Finally Cold Chain Federation’s Tom Southall will introduce the Federation’s new guidance on Energy Efficiency in the Cold Chain which will be available from July.
