Valves and Fittings: A symphony of valves

Titan’s pitch is its perfect range and fine delivery
Valves and Fittings: A symphony of valves
TITAN Engineering has earned a reputation as one of the most reliable and speedy suppliers of refrigeration components, especially for large control valves and refrigeration shut-off valves.

As a distributor, of course, Titan would not have been able to reach this position without the support of its suppliers. One such supplier is French manufacturer Robinet (RFF) which is now delivering three times a month to keep up with demand. Most of Titan deliveries are made from their large investment in 2,000 stock refrigeration valves at their Princes Risborough stores. The normal Titan UK delivery time is next day with PN65 and PN40, taking approx 10 days from France.

With an association dating back nearly 30 years, Titan md Jim Proops is now the company’s largest overseas customer. RFF started exporting in 1975, with exports now accounting for nearly half of its production.

Innovation

Tracing its history back to 1952, the activities of RFF Robinet today are a far cry from its original existence in cold storage and ice production. Its eventual move into valve manufacturing became one of innovation: in 1958 RFF was the first company to use ‘O’ rings as a means to sealing the spindle and later went on to pioneer the use of Teflon on valve seats.

By using the most modern production techniques at its plant in Domessin, RFF now offers the highest quality and competitive range of refrigeration valves. Although manufacturing in batches and to order, RFF’s employment of around 20 CNC machines enables the company to produce around 40,000 stainless steel and low temperature steel refrigeration valves per year.

Unusually, in this day and age of component assembly companies, RFF has remained very much a manufacturing business – all designing and machining is carried out in-house. And the RFF range is vast, incorporating around 5,400 different valve types at last count.

Complete range

The range includes straight or angle valves, hand regulating valves, check valves, filters, combined stop/check valves, purge valves, stop valves and ball valves. The Titan range has also been expanded by the introduction of new stainless steel shut-off valves and ball valves with connection size, now up from DN80 to DN100.

One of the features, which is not generally known is that Titan’s RFF ball valves are serviceable in the field designed to enable back seating of the spindle for the removal and service of spindle ‘O’ rings while the valves are on line.
