Two engineers die in separate van explosions

MYSTERY still surrounds the deaths of two refrigeration engineers in Australia following explosions within their vans. The two separate incidents, within days of each other, are being blamed on leaking oxy-acetylene cylinders in their vehicles.
The first incident in Melbourne on December 12 reportedly occurred as the 25-year-old refrigeration engineer left for work. The explosion littered the street with debris and damaged many homes in the area. The engineer was treated at the scene but sadly passed away later the same day in hospital.

The explosion is still under investigation but early reports said the fire brigade suspected a leak from one of the gas cylinders kept in the rear of the van.

Just four days later another refrigeration engineer was killed in Darwin when his van exploded as he prepared to go to work. Local news reports said the explosion was thought to have set off other cylinders in a large explosion that blew the doors off the man's vehicle, blew out windows in nearby houses and started a house fire. The engineer is said to have died instantly.

While ACR News is unaware of any such incidents in the UK, these are not the first of their kind in Australia. Two years ago a similar explosion outside another house in Melbourne was said to have caused by a leaking cylinder triggered by a spark from the vehicle's remote locking system.
