THE 2007 National Training Awards celebrated the talents of the building services engineering sector’s most promising individuals, including apprentices, engineers and management personnel.
The seventh NTA ceremony brought together award winners, employers, college representatives and industry leaders to celebrate outstanding achievements.
This year, for the first time, building services engineering industries were fully represented, with award categories in plumbing, electrotechnical, heating and ventilating and air conditioning and refrigeration.
Technician engineer and existing worker categories in both mechanical and electrical completed the set to ensure every aspect of the sector was covered.
SummitSkills, the sector skills council for building services engineering, organised the event, with its vice-chairman, Stuart Lyon, acting as host and MC. A special congratulatory video was supplied by Phil Hope MP, Minister for Skills.
He said: “I am so impressed by today’s winners. They are fine examples of people who, supported by their employers, are making the most of the opportunities available. And I hope that your success today is only the start. The building services engineering sector is so important to the future of this country. High quality public services, our schools and hospitals, world-beating businesses and the homes we all live in are all reliant on the services you bring.”
This year, for the first time, each winner received £100 of retail vouchers, courtesy of awarding body EAL. SummitSkills recognised the generosity of its collaborators: AG Manly Charitable Trust, Amicus, APHC, CIBSE, ECA, ESTTL, HVCA, NET, SNIPEF, SELECT and The Happold Trust; without their support these awards would not be possible.
The next round of awards will open for application later in the year.
