Tesco reports Q1 sales increase

Tesco has reported a 0.3% rise in like-for-like sales for the 13 weeks to 28 May this year – its second consecutive quarter of growth.

Tesco has reported a 0.3% rise in like-for-like sales for the 13 weeks to 28 May this year – its second consecutive quarter of growth.

For the first quarter of 2016-17 group like-for-like sales grew by 0.9%, while international sales were up by 3.0%.

The retailer has recently sold the Dobbies Garden Centres, Giraffe restaurants and Harris + Hoole coffee shops chains.

Chief executive Dave Lewis said: 'We have delivered a second quarter of positive like-for-like sales growth across all parts of the Group in what remains a challenging market with sustained deflation.”

He continued: “We are encouraged by the progress we are making. By growing volumes, transforming the way we work together with our suppliers, and further optimising our store operating model we are rebuilding profitability in a sustainable way.”
