ATO Current Transformers offer a safe, accurate, and efficient way to measure high currents (10A~3000A), making them indispensable components in various electrical systems, from power distribution and energy management to protective relaying and industrial automation. ATO current transformers are mainly divided into two categories: solid core current transformers and split core current transformers.
Traditional solid-core current transformers are generally considered to be more accurate and stable in measurements compared to split-core current transformers. Split-core current transformers may introduce some measurement errors due to slight gaps in the magnetic circuit when the core is closed around the conductor. Split-core CTs can be installed without the need to disconnect the circuit or interrupt power, making them more convenient for retrofitting into existing systems. In contrast, solid-core CTs require the circuit to be opened to pass the conductor through the core.
Both current transformers have their own advantages and disadvantages, please choose according to your actual needs.
After that, you can choose the right current transformer by the following 4 points to ensure accurate and reliable current measurement or protection.
1. Determine the purpose of the current transformer: Are you measuring current for monitoring, control, or protection?
2. Identify the primary current range you need to measure (e.g., 0-100A, 0-400A, etc.).
3. Specify the accuracy required for your application (e.g., class 0.5, class 0.2, etc.).
4. Determine whether the current transformers will be used for AC or DC current measurements.
