Still No 1 and now Poles apart

WITH LG retaining its position as the world's leading residential air conditioning producer for the sixth consecutive year, the Korean manufacturer, has announced plans to further boost production with a new factory in Poland.
Dests in Poland say that the new home appliance facility in Wroclaw is expected to come online early next year, boosting worldwide production from the current 14.4 million units to 16 million by 2007. LG currently produces 7,400,000 units in overseas factories and 5,500,500 in South Korea. Total investment is expected to reach £101m by 2011 in the Polish plant.

Despite reports in Poland to the contrary, an LG spokesman could not confirm that the Polish plant would produce ac units saying that this had not yet been finalised.

According to leading Japanese market research consultancy Fuji-Keizai, LG sold approximately 10,500,000 units last year out of the total 60,420,000 units sold worldwide. China's Haier followed LG at around 8,000,000 units.
