SOLSTICE is the new name that Honeywell has adopted for its new HFO refrigerants and blowing agents. The brand name will be used for the company's new mobile air conditioning refrigerant HFO-1234yf and the new blowing agent and propellant, HFO-1234ze.
Honeywell's Solstice 1234yf is being widely adopted by the automotive industry for use as a refrigerant in car air conditioning systems. It has a GWP of 4, which is 99.7 percent less than HFC-134a (with a GWP of 1,430), the prior refrigerant used in this application.
Honeywell Solstice 1234ze is a gaseous blowing agent and propellant that is being used in aerosols and extruded polystyrene board applications. It has a GWP of 6, and replaces HFC-134a and HFC-152a (with a GWP of 142).
Solstice will also be used for other HFOs that the company is developing as stationary and mobile refrigerants, blowing agents, propellants and solvents.
