Samsung hosts exclusive homes of the future event

Samsung Climate Solutions hosted over 150 housebuilding and installation professionals last week at its exclusive ‘Samsung Spotlights: high tech, lower carbon homes of the future’ event, held at its flagship KX space in London Kings Cross.

The event uncovered the role that smart technology can play in delivering true homes of the future and how Samsung solutions can support the industry through the transition towards a smarter, more efficient UK housing stock.

It welcomed representatives from UK housebuilders, HVAC installers, industry partners, and journalists to hear from expert industry speakers covering a range of important topics, including:

  • Mark Seaman, head of Samsung’s B2B Integrated Offering Team, who discussed the growing demand for energy-efficient homes - driven largely by Gen Z - and how smart technology can support consumers in decarbonising homes. He also covered how its recent partnership with British Gas will empower customers to make smarter energy choices.
  • Charlotte Lee, chief executive officer at the Heat Pump Association, who delivered a rousing speech on the considerations and opportunities presented by heat pumps, covering current uptake and policy, the ins and outs of the UK’s boiler upgrade scheme, and the industry road map for the future.
  • Leonardo Melo, business development engineer at Samsung Electronics Air Conditioner Europe, who educated audiences on the role smart technology can play in reaching net zero homes, paying particular attention to how Samsung’s connected device ecosystem, SmartThings, can support consumers in decreasing energy usage.
  • Jan Rosenow, director of European Programmes at the Regulatory Assistance Project, who focused on a policy-led session and what needs to be done to enable mass market heat pump penetration in the UK, closing with the sentiment that change is in the air.

Samsung also used the event to showcase its latest EHS Mono R290 series - a revolutionary series of heat pumps, designed for both domestic renovations and new constructions. The EHS Mono R290 offers a consistent supply of hot water temperature of up to 75 °C. It is available in a broad range of capacities for varying requirements and operates with low noise levels as low as 35 dB(A) using a 4-step quiet mode.

In addition, its dedicated training team was present to discuss the importance of building a skilled workforce to scale up heat pump installations. Samsung Climate Solutions offers free training to installers wanting to upskill themselves in energy efficient technologies, comprising both e-Learning and in-person training in Chertsey, and soon-to-be Manchester at its brand-new Northern training centre. Partners at the training scheme, Your Energy, Your Way were also present to cover how they are addressing the shortage of labour in low-carbon heating by recruiting a diverse workforce of technicians within its scheme.

Stuart Bell, national heating sales manager at Samsung, who compered the event, said: “It was fantastic to see so many people come together to discuss the technologies and opportunities that will help the industry to meet the Future Homes Standard and build homes fit for the future. We were pleased to welcome several influential housebuilders, engineers, designers and installers, as well as a number of our partners, such as British Gas, who are supporting us in our efforts to make the UK’s heating stock more efficient.”
