Rooftop heat pump collaboration reaches new heights

Eurovent Certification and the UK’s Energy Technology List (ETL) are set to simplify product selection and certification for rooftop heat pump units, widely used in retail and small commercial buildings.

Since early 2024, the two organisations have worked to harmonise testing standards, allowing Eurovent Certification test reports to be used in ETL applications, provided products meet the ETL’s energy performance thresholds. This streamlines the listing process for manufacturers and supports specifiers in identifying high-efficiency, third-party verified products.

The ETL, backed by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), features around 8,000 independently verified products across 65 sub-technology groups. To qualify, products must rank in the top 25% for energy efficiency in their category. Eurovent Certification, meanwhile, conducts impartial performance verification through lab testing, factory audits, and data consistency checks.

Rooftop heat pumps, packaged systems that deliver heating, cooling, and ventilation, now join a growing list of aligned products, including air-to-water heat pumps, refrigerated display cabinets, and evaporative coolers. The alignment allows Eurovent-certified manufacturers to reuse existing test data for ETL applications, reducing administrative burden.

For specifiers, the collaboration offers dual assurance: “Choosing products holding Eurovent Certified Performance and listing on the ETL not only removes uncertainty from the selection process but also supports decarbonisation goals.”
