The EHPA argues that heat pumps, central to Europe’s energy security and decarbonisation efforts, face a competitive disadvantage due to disproportionate electricity taxation compared to gas. The association notes that “a heat pump is most competitive when the electricity is twice the price of gas or less,” adding that taxes and levies significantly influence energy pricing in many EU member states.
Enrique Vilamitjana, Managing Director at Panasonic Heating & Cooling, stated: “At Panasonic, we are proud to be recognised as a leading European heat pump brand, actively supporting the EU’s energy independence—especially in today’s complex geopolitical landscape. A stable regulatory environment is essential to accelerate the green energy transition, and we urge policymakers to maintain climate targets and the decarbonisation trajectory. This is vital not only for the planet, but also to ensure robust business cases for clean technologies.”
