New Year debate asks will F-gas regs reduce leaks?

Industry professionals are invited to hear a debate held by the Institute of Refrigeration on whether F-gas rules will reduce refrigerant leaks.
EU regulation on certain fluorinated gases (which came into force on July 4, 2007) is aimed at reducing the emissions of F-gases covered by the Kyoto Protocol, but the question of whether this will work in practice in the UK is the subject of a debate at the South Bank University on January 10.

Points likely to be debated include:

whether or not regular leak checking really helps containment?

whether increased training and certification requirements will lead to better ability to detect and fix leaks?

how will end users respond to their new responsibilities under the regulation?

will the regulation be effective in reducing emissions?

The discussion will be introduced by Robert Heap (for the motion) a former chairman of the ACRIB Technical Committee and honorary president of the Science and Technology Council of the International Institute of Refrigeration.

Ray Gluckman, the director of Enviros Consulting will argue against the motion.

Interested parties are invited to attend the debate which begins at 5.15pm at London South Bank University, Borough.
