Morrisons reports sales growth

Morrisons has seen a 0.7% increase in like-for-like sales excluding fuel for the first quarter of the year — its second consecutive quarter of growth.

Morrisons has seen a 0.7% increase in like-for-like sales excluding fuel for the first quarter of the year — its second consecutive quarter of growth.

The retailer’s trading statement for the 13 weeks to 1 May shows total sales down by 1.8% excluding fuel. It says this reflects the impact of supermarket closures and the exit of the M local convenience store chain.

Chief executive David Potts said: “We are encouraged by progress across our six priorities. There is still much to do and our colleagues are working very hard to improve the shopping trip and save customers every penny we can.

“We are of course pleased with a second consecutive quarter of positive LFL sales, which demonstrates our aim to stabilise trade is taking effect.”
