Mitsubishi extends heat pump recall to Europe

MITSUBISHI Electric divisions in France and Germany have joined the UK in issuing a recall of its Ecodan heat pumps after a faulty receiver unit burst its weld and caused considerable damage to a unit in Chard, Somerset, last month.
While the actual model involved in Chard is not sold in France, the French company has ordered a recall of certain models as a precautionary measure.

'We made the decision to initiate a recall as a precautionary measure in accordance with our high standards of quality and safety of our products. It is this requirement that now justifies the trust of our customers,' md Eric Pellerin told the French website Enerzine.com.

'There has been no incident of this type in France on the thousands of heat pumps installed in this range. However, we have chosen to opt for the precautionary principle recalling all products manufactured with the component in question,' he added.

Mitsubishi Germany has issued a recall of five Ecodan models in what it says is the first such recall in the history of Mitsubishi Electric. Like the UK and France, Germany is also offering to reimburse householders for extra water heating costs while the units are waiting to be replaced.
