Mitsubishi Electric to stop selling cooling-only equipment

MITSUBISHI Electric Living Environmental Systems will no longer promote cooling-only ac products in the UK and is phasing out existing models from its stock.

The firm says its decision, part of Mitsubishi Electric's Green Gateway Initiative, comes after advances in ac and heat pump technology in the last five years which have made it the most energy efficient and cost-effective way of heating and cooling buildings.

Modern ac systems transfer energy around buildings and borrow excess heat from an area being cooled to heat other areas.

'Air conditioning is now ideal as the primary source of heating and cooling for the majority of commercial applications,' said commercial director Donald Daw.

'Heat pumps are one of the lowest carbon ways to heat a building and we are ensuring that we encourage as many heating installations as possible,' he added.
