MEXICHEM Fluor has acquired the former Showa Denko HFC plant located at Kawasaki, Japan.
The plant which was shut down at the end of 2009, has an annual production capacity of 10 Ktes and can selectively produce R-125 or R-134a. It is currently being recommissioned and will commence production during Q4 2011. Initially production will focus on R-125 as demand for this key raw material increases.
The company say that this acquisition represents a significant step for Mexichem in its strategy to accelerate its growth and position in the blends market whilst building on its existing R-125 production capability in the UK. The Kawasaki plant compliments Mexichem's existing refrigerant business and will become the only producer of R-125 in Asia, outside of China.
