Maskold and A-Gas deliver rooftop recovery success with Daikin confidence

As environmental regulations tighten and circular economy principles gain traction, refrigerant recovery is no longer a back-end task. For Maskold, a leading independent provider of refrigeration, air conditioning, and ventilation solutions in the South East, this shift is already well underway. Their recent collaboration with A-Gas, under Daikin’s Reclaim with Confidence Programme, exemplifies how technical precision and logistical agility can align with sustainability goals.

The project involved the decommissioning of more than 20 rooftop Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) units, each requiring safe and efficient refrigerant removal. With restricted access and a tight timeline, traditional recovery methods posed both safety and efficiency concerns. Maskold turned to A-Gas Rapid Recovery, a mobile, high-speed solution designed to meet the challenge head-on.

After submitting Daikin’s online form, the A-Gas team conducted a site inspection to assess the rooftop configuration. On the day of recovery, flexible hoses were extended from ground level to the rooftop, connecting the HVAC units to recovery systems below. Using a pull-pull method, the team ensured a steady, controlled transfer of refrigerant into secure recovery cylinders. The recovered gases—450kg of R407C and R410A—were then transported to A-Gas facilities for processing and reclamation.

“A-Gas was chosen as they are quick and cost-effective,” said Zal Gavin of Maskold. “We are happy with the service received and will continue to use it in the future.”

The outcome was a streamlined, compliant recovery operation with zero atmospheric release. More importantly, the reclaimed refrigerant is now available for reuse, reinforcing the circular economy model and reducing environmental impact.

Delivered as part of Daikin’s Reclaim with Confidence Programme, the project highlights the value of industry collaboration in achieving sustainability targets. Maskold’s decision to partner with A-Gas reflects a growing recognition that refrigerant recovery is not just a regulatory requirement, it’s a business-critical opportunity to lead on environmental stewardship.
