Magnetic refrigeration attracts UK ingenuity

SCIENTISTS at Cambridge University would appear to be leading the world in research into the commercial potential of magnetic refrigeration. One group at the college has just announced the development of a protoype magnetic fridge that could be 40% more energy efficient than conventional models.
Camfridge Ltd, the company formed to develop the technology is on course to produce a prototype by the end of this month. Managing director Neil Wilson says the company is already in contact with main system manufacturers and strategic refrigeration users to jointly develop pre-production prototypes for at least three market segments: domestic refrigeration, small commercial refrigeration and commercial air conditioning.
