M&S reduces refrigeration gas carbon emissions by 60%

UK: Marks & Spencer reduced its store refrigeration gas carbon emissions by 51,000 tonnes CO2e in 2012/13, down by 60% compared to 2006/07.
Allowing for increases in store footage, the figures contained in the retail group's latest Plan A environmental report reveal that emissions were down 67% to 3.1 tonnes CO2e/1,000ft2.
This is said to have been achieved by improving maintenance, moving to CO2 systems and replacing R404A with the lower GWP blend R407A. Marks & Spencer now has 449 stores running on R407A which it says is being used as an interim measure until it completes the roll-out of CO2 systems. There are 76 stores now operating CO2 systems. Overall, 6% of M&S stores are still using HCFCs with 79% on HFCs and 15% using naturals.
