A new refrigeration and air conditioning apprenticeship course has been launched in Leeds in response to environmental concerns and modern building standards.
The two year course at Leeds College of Building gives individuals the chance to achieve a Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. It complements a number of other courses available at the college, including electro technical technology, heating and ventilation, and plumbing and heating.
Those taking the course will learn how to install, test and maintain air conditioning, refrigeration and heat pump systems, as well as learning about the safe handling of fluorinated gases and ozone-depleting substances.
Principal of Leeds College of Building, Ian Billyard, says: “This course appeals to a wide range of budding apprentices who are keen to meet their employers’ needs for fully competent refrigeration or air conditioning engineers. This is a major growth area that is being driven by the environmental agenda and we’re delighted to be able to offer this course in Leeds.”
He continued: “Air Conditioning and Refrigeration is an extremely technical industry which requires dedicated and highly-skilled individuals. They must be trained in specialist techniques, and continually strive to ensure air is at the correct temperature for a huge range of environments and applications.
To take part in the course, individuals must be employed within the refrigeration and air conditioning sector and ideally have GCSE grades A-D in English, maths and science.
