JOHNSON Controls is to supply 46 chiller units to cool down the 40,000 residents of Pearl Island, Qatar.
The contract is the largest single order for chiller units in the company's history.
Qatar Cool, the district cooling authority for the Pearl Island of Qatar in the Arabian Gulf, signed a contract with Johnson Controls to receive the chiller units with an option to purchase six more.
Each Johnson Controls YORK centrifugal water-cooled chiller unit is 26 ft long and weighs 2,500 tons.
The units will be shipped from Texas to Qatar to be installed at the world's largest district cooling chiller plant.
The plant is designed to supply 115,000 tons of chilled water daily to cool more than 15,000 residential and commercial units.
The chilled water will be distributed via an underground network of 10-ft pipes laid out across the 985 acre manmade island.
Delivery and installation of the chiller units is scheduled to start in December and end next May.
